TORONTO LOFTS
Argyle Lofts
183 Dovercourt Road
The tallest in a residential area, this is a former Ideal Bread Company bakery, converted into a 5-storey loft building with a beautiful façade. The Edwardian building dates from 1919, and was converted into 86 lofts.
Loft units range in size from about 500 sq. ft. to approximately 1600 sq. ft. Lofts feature high ceilings, wood floors and exposed heating ducts. Top level penthouses are set back from the façade and allow spectacular views through tall walls of windows. Pets are allowed. Management company is Goldview Property Management, 416-630-1234.
Bartlett Lofts
6 and 8 Bartlett Avenue
This loft complex consists of two buildings. 6 Bartlett is one of Toronto's first loft conversions and contains only 13 multi-level spaces with exposed brick, hardwood floors, fireplaces and skylights. Loft units range in size from 1300 to 1600 sq. ft. Low maintenance fees don't include hydro. The conversion by Allan D. Gordon Associates was completed in 1985.
The neighbouring building at 8 Bartlett Avenue was converted in 2002 by Alice Street Holdings. Originally a rope factory established in 1907, it was divided into six units with 13-feet ceilings, sandblasted columns and beams and exposed brick. The lofts range in size from approximately 1100 to about 1400 sq. ft. Both properties are dog-friendly and are managed by Living Properties Inc., 905-477-2090.
Beach House Lofts
1842 Queen Street East
This loft building was completed in 2005 by Streetcar Developments. The four storey building contains 10 lofts ranging in size from 615 to 1,748 sq. ft. and featuring high ceilings (up to 17 feet) and large windows.
Interesting feature is a stacking system for car parking. These parking spots are available for a rental fee, and resemble bunk beds. Pets are permitted. Management company is Orion Property Management, 905-670-0501.
Bloorline Lofts
284 St. Helens Avenue
Once a mattress factory, this building was converted by Plazacorp in 2003. While providing the building with a new roof and new windows, the company retained most of the original structure.
Lofts vary in size from a tiny space of just 367 sq. ft. to approximately 1,100 sq. ft., and each unit is different. Flats, two and three storey spaces feature brick walls, large windows and wooden ceilings. While the ground level lofts tend to be a bit dark, they have private entrances and some of them have patios. Upper level units are bright and airy. The location provides easy walking distance to the subway. Pets are allowed. Management company is Goldview Property Managment, 416-630-1234.
